A Decision is Made

Blinking, Rellah walked toward the Arrow, staring at it as though it was a new place to her. Frowning, she sat on the steps, afraid to go in any further. She could hear the voices of laughter filling the tavern within, the clinking of goblets full of fey. The Arrow was the last place Rellah would have thought she would not feel welcome

Looking down, Rellah pulled out a small shiny blue object from within her clothing, staring at it as though it were going to come to life. And she wished it would talk to her, as the other voices had. The only way the magical flute would speak to her is if she touched it, she knew. It was not the same as the dolphin outside her home, it was not the same as the bath house incident.

Rellah never expected that she would be able to empathize with another, but Lindel proved her wrong. She knew the others were sickened by the child's disappearance, knew that they all wanted to help, to just, do what their hearts wanted, even if it was irrational, even if it went against what everyone else thought. She knew most of the other women felt a motherly instinct over the lost girl. Rellah did not. She had never thought about Lindel as a daughter. She thought of her as herself, running

Rellah shook her head, tears coming to her eyes. No one should feel like that, she thought, blinking through tears, staring at the flute. Rellah could understand what fear Lindel was running from. She would not stop running until the fear no longer had a source, no longer could be a threat to her. As much as the others had good intentions, sincere feelings, it seemed as though they were forgetting, perhaps not seeing, what fear this child lived in.

Simply finding the child would not be enough. The fear had to be extinguished, had to be shown to Lindel that it would never, ever come for her again. Until that was done, until the others saw what Rellah knew, Lindel would not come home.

Rellah considered looking for Garreth herself. She no longer thought about protecting herself from the people after her. If she could find Garreth, and stop him, Lindel would be able to come home, could be embraced by her father. She could have a normal life, a life that Rellah would never have herself. It was too late for Rellah, but Lindel was still able to be saved. And that in itself was enough motivation for Rellah.

While the others were out looking to find Lindel, Rellah would find the source of the fear. She would look for Garreth. Fear building in her chest, Rellah stood up, tucking the flute safely away. She knew when she found him, if she found him, that someone would die. And with every inch that gave her life, she hoped it would be the fear that plagued Lindel.

Nearby, she watched Rellah with her obsidian eyes. A wrinkle formed on her brow as she observed her mistress. My Lady knows her time is almost up for this world. Yet, she will not try to run. She will not try to escape us again. What keeps her here?
Her eyes shifted as feet crushed the leaves behind her. A voice, like a purr, spoke a reply. She has always had a soft heart, compassion for others beneath her. Never saw a separation of the classes, our Lady. That is why she is weak, that is why she will never rule, as long as her brother breathes.

The one with obsidian eyes turned to look at the voice. A slender, feline like woman stood in front of her, yellow eyes glowing with a predatory hunger as she stared at Rellah on the steps. She tossed her fiery red hair behind her, a slight curl to her lips as she stepped forward. What are we waiting for, Nikita? Let us take our Mistress home.

Nikita raised a hand at the feline woman, her black eyes turning back to Rellah. It is not time, Odessa. She is protected here in this Elven village. Our powers may not be enough to take her, if she does not come willingly. Amadul can wait a few more days for their Princess to come home. I want to know what shes up to. I know that she knows we are here, Odessa. I can see it in her heart. Yet she does not run. Perhaps we should let her finish what she wants to accomplish here. I have a feeling if we leave her be until then, she will come back willingly.

Odessa made a hissing noise, looking disappointed in Nikitas sudden warmth in her heart for Rellah. You know Nikita, Amadul does not need a Princess, they need Her. Her gifts are extraordinary, her gifts keep Amadul protected. She is the One, come back to keep the peace in Amadul for these next 5000 years. You know as well as I do who she really is. And that is why we cannot wait for her trivial dabblings here in this savage planet.

Odessa stepped forward again, but Nikita was persistent, giving Odessa a look that made her cringe with a slight fear. It is not time, Odessa. Not while shes in this village. You know as well as I do that it would make it much easier on us if she came willingly. You know this because of what happened before. Lets keep a level head.

Odessa hissed at her, stepping into the shadows. If I didnt know better, Nikita, youre growing a heart in that daemon body of yours. Remember who we serve, remember our mission. I wouldnt want to have to go through you to get to her.

And with an anguished cry, Odessa leapt into the trees, moving farther away from Nikita. Sighing, Nikita turned back to watch Rellah. Princess, you will have to hurry in your quest. I can promise my patience, but not the patience of others.
