Several warriors moved quickly to gather the unconscious form, of Morion Kuu. Within moments they were gone--vanished into the vast darkness of the forest.

Nicola worked quietly in the pre-dawn light. In spite of the chill air, she was sweating already. Her father had taken the others, all except Ma, and had gone to town for supplies. He had also left a long list of chores that had to be done. She looked off across the fields for her mother, but she was no where to be seen. Nicola thought quietly to herself. Ma was probably off chasing that new milking cow. She was about to go back to her work when she heard horses out on the road. Soon afterward she caught a glimpse of several dark riders. She took off at a run, but by the time she had gotten from the back field to the chicken yard, the strangers had already entered the house. She slipped closer, staying out of sight until she could know their intentions.

Outside, their horses were being tended by one of the riders, a dark elf by all appearances. There was also a slumped figure on the ground near where the horses were tied. She heard scuffeling inside the house. They were searching for something perhaps. She heard glass break as things hit the floor. What could they want? Her family had nothing worth stealing. She heard a woman's voice, harsh and commanding. Suddenly two warriors in black chainmail burst through the door out into the dusty yard. They moved quickly toward the slumped form on the ground and lifted the unconscious man by the arms and dragged him into the house.

Nicola quickly ducked down behind the woodpile. What were dark elves doing here? She had heard enough stories about them to realize the terrible danger. Her mind was racing. If Ma came back, she would try to tell them something, and that wouldn't do. Just then, the drow warrior finished with the horses, and he moved down the road far enough to where he could see around the bend. Then he passed out of sight in the shadows of the trees. Nicola slipped around the other side of the woodpile and duck-walked to the side of the house. Ever so slowly she peeked in the window.

They had thrown the unconscious man up on the table. He had been badly wounded in the leg and appeared to have lost a lot of blood. When she looked closer, she was pretty sure that she recognized him as one of the local elves. She had seen him before on several occasions as he patrolled the forest. He had never spoken, only looked from the edge of the trees at her. He had a very penetrating gaze. She had tried to wave once, but when she looked again, the mysterious elf had already vanished.

The drow warriors were standing back from the table now, and the drow female was casting a magical spell on the wounded elf. As she held her hands above him, a blue, liquid light spread slowly out to completely cover him. She held that spell, murmmering words of power for what seemed a long time, and then the wounded elf moved sligtly. She stopped that spell and began another that focused the blue light on the elf's wounded leg. When she had finished, she took a potion from her bag and touched to to his lips until he drank.

The drow female turned to one of the warriors. "Take a horse and ride our backtrail as far as the Abbey road. See if we have been followed. It will be a few hours before he can travel again."

Jyslin Ril, drow priestess and daughter of House Maerdyn, looked back at the unconscious form of Morion Kuu, leader of the Ostar tel'Taur. With a snear, she ripped the Bracelet of Bonding from his arm and tossed it into the fireplace.
