Another question

So you say swordsmanship. First of all in my template I'm looking at using both archery and some form of melee combat, I wanted an opinion on a field of melee before I said what I heard. I used to be in an elven guild on Europa but left after a shortwhile, the leader didn't seem too knowledgable about what he said he was and I realized he plagarized this and at least one other site. Anyway, from that site I learnt that elves who pursue melee filed as well choose fencing and often choose spears. Does that make any sense? Or would a melee/fighter elf most likely choose swordsmanship? Thanks in advance.
