Curing Yew

Ok...here's what we need to do tomorrow night.

First...we all MUST log into UO Chat (tel'Mithrim) to organize this. ICQ is too clunky and slow and only communicates with one person at a time.

Now...there's six plague trees around Yew. Two south of the square, one east of the square, one west, and one north. One is also in the square (inside the bowyery actually) but that one is already cured. The one east of the square is cured as well. Not sure about the rest...we'll just have to check on them tomorrow.

The trees are still sick if they are green. They are cured if they are blue.

To heal each tree we need :

10 bright seeds (from cross-polination)
50 greater cure potions
50 greater heal potions
30 plague beast lord cores

To apply these items you double click the big green maw and it will bring up a targeting cursor...target the item. It will tell you if it can't use any more of that item.

We need one large group to stake out a particular sick tree in Yew and try to keep the spawn around that tree under control. This should be the biggest group and should never leave the tree while it's still ill. Preferably we'll need bards and tamers in this group, because I don't want the tree to get overwhelmed and people are going to be running up to it with stuff hot on their heels. One good thing...mages can now use area effect spells within Yew.

Then we need people in small groups, ideally pairs, to head into the woods to look for plague beast lords. These people should have runes to the tree that we're defending, should carry a lot of bandages and some scissors, and should know how to perform surgery. You folks are going to have to get into these groups yourselves...pick people you work well with. The locations these plague beast lords spawn at are : Yew crypt area and the woods nearby, Cove cemetary area and the woods between Cove/Minoc/Vesper, and Fire Island. The spawn isn't like other spawn...you can't just sit in one area and wait on a new lord. It's very spread out, so you have to wander around the general area looking for them...hence the small groups. Ideally, hide or outdistance anything else in the area and concentrate only on finding the lords.

Another small group should gather potions and seeds and bring those out for as long as the tree will take them...switching to the plague beast lord core hunt when they are done.

The trick to the surgery is to heal the bleeders. The trick to healing the bleeders is that the targeting cursor does not immediately go away when you've targeted the bleeder with a bandage...it stays briefly. Any other clicks while that cursor is up and the plague beast lord is going to die. Also, make real sure that you actually target the red blood and not the black area around it...a missed target will also kill the plague beast lord. It definately takes practice.

Also...surgeons should be extremely fast or should actually work on the creatures in pairs. When working in pairs one should handle cutting and bandaging and the other should handle moving the brains into the right place. You are going to fail at this several times until you get it right.

A few tips : Always start with the coffin looking things, since they will never bleed and are fastest. Next, cut open two of the rock things at once, don't wait for each one to finish opening, and then bandage any bleeders. Never click more than once when bandaging a bleeder, even though you will still have the targeting cursor. Make real sure that you hit the actual blood graphic and not the surrounding black background. Keep that going until all the rock looking things are open. Then switch to the ones with veins to cut....though unless you are real fast or have good help it seems like if you haven't found four brains by this point and you have to go to the veins you are screwed, time is about to be up. If you do have to go to the veins...cut them all at one time, don't wait between cuts. Then bandage any bleeders.

I don't believe the healing skill is required...just bandages. To pull this off you really need to have macros for both a bandage and the scissors. I finally got the hang of bandaging the bleeders, but I've still never been fast enough to get completely finished and get a core.
