She sniffled back the tears and wiped the snot her sleeve as wrapped her cloak tighter around against the cool night air.

Stupid stupid, you didnt pay attention it was getting dark. Now you cants see the way back through woods and your lost, stupid stupid. She yelled into the shadows of the trees. She sniffled another tear back. The little dark figure walked through the trees , tripping once in a while over a root from tree. She picked herself up and brushed leaves off her cloak.

Rachael had walked very early that morn to go into the city, to sell some herbs she had picked the day before. On her way back she had seen some children playing hide n seek. Stopping she wanted to play too. She laid down her package on the ground and joined in the fun.

Then a long howl echoed through the woods and Rachael quickly turned around from the direction she came. Frightened she shrieked and started running. Branches clutched at her robe and scratched her face like bony fingers in the shadows. She didnt see another tree root that sent her sprawling across the forest floor knocking the breath out of her. After a couple of rolls she finally came to stop gasping for some air, slowly picked her self up off the ground.

Stupid stupid, you know better then be out in the woods after dark, there are things out there, hungry things. Stop stop , think, you gotta think. she mumbled to herself frantically looking around her. She saw where the dark shadows started to turned in to lighter shadows and ran as fast as she could.

Rachel stumbled up on a small clearing and in the moonlight she saw a little shack. She didnt see any lights or smoke from the chimney. Running quietly up to the house looking in every direction she could tell it had been abandoned for a while. She crept up the porch and reached for the latch on the door and it swung easily open. She walked in to the middle of the dark room, holding her breath, listening. She could hear a rasping shy of someone having problems breathing. She turned as she heard the breathing seam to come from a backroom. Peeking around the corner of the door she could see the shadowy bump upon the bed in the corner of the room. Quietly she tiptoed over to the bed.

Oh, a Mr. elf. As she caught her breath. She noticed the bandages. A poor Mr. elf too, he be hurt." Rachael put her hands and her hips remember the other elves she always sees at the glade. Poor Mr. elf, who would want to hurt him? Bad bad people. She notice the blanket was half falling off the bed so she pulled it up close over the elf as he let out a groan. shhhh, Mr. elf sleep, sleep. I wont let anybody hurt you again.

Rachael yawned as her stomach let out a hungry growl. It had been since mid morn the last time she had ate anything. Looking around she saw on a table some linty cheese, over-ripe fruit and a bottle of cheap wine. She looked at the elf on the bed.

I am sure Mr. elf wont mind if I have a bit of cheese. As she broke off a small piece. Rachael went over to the corner of the room and slinked down on the floor nibbling on the cheese. It was not long before she drifted off to a sound sleep.
