A rush of air stirred Rachael from her dream. Rubbing her eyes she looked around seeing nothing but night shadows lurking in the room. Coughing interrupted the silence, Rachel pushed herself up off the floor and walked to the bed where the sound had come from. The elf lying went through yet another fit of cough worse then the one before. Pulling up the blanket over the elf again, her hand touched his face. Rachel could feel the heat radiating from him.Oh no, he be burning up. Rachael whispered as she rested her finger on her lips. Okay now think, think. Now what did momma do when her brother Twick was really sick that one time? He be burning up the same as Mr. Elf. Rachael thought really hard. Then the though came to her. That be it, that be it. Water and a rag. Momma soaked a rag with cool well water to make him feel better.
Rachel looked around the bed and upon the floor she saw a piece of rag, bending she picked it up. Walking over to the window Rachael looked outside it was still dark. She hadnt noticed if there was a well when she came up to the house. All house have a well silly, just go get some water and soak the rag and keep on Mr. elf. That make em feel better. Rachael looked back out the window and whimpered. Things out there, hungry things.
She looked around and remembered the bottle of wine next to the cheese. That will work. Mr. Elf might not smell to good, but it will work. She tried pulling the stopper from the bottle and couldn't get it come out , so she used her teeth, the cork came out with a loud pop sound spilling some wine down the front of her cloak. Ah oh, I wont be smelling too good either.
Rachael soaked the rag in the wine and climbed upon the bed next to the elf, dabbing his forehead and checks. Then she carefully laid it up on his brow. She turned around sitting on the edge of the bed with her legs dangling and sighed.
