Almost all of this information are bits I've seen and heard and I can't back most of it up with direct quotes from a refence book. It's been said that elves love to love. If it's another elf, traditionaly speaking, they don't care if it's male or female, they'd probably become lovers if it was mutual. They are fey, wild and uninhibited. Beauty is beauty.
There are storys of elven love ignoring obsticals such as species.
One elf maid fell maddly in love with an ent. Her clan mocked her and wouldn't let her free to see him. But her devotion was genuine and the gods alowed her to turn into an ent herself to be with her love.
Elven marrage is extreamly rare, how often do you run into some one you want to spend a couple thousand years with? It's such a sacred thing that the witnesses at the wedding swear to hunt down and kill and one that dose some thing to jepordize the union. Even maried couples will live appart for decades just to keep their love freash. Not that they are disloyal, just appart.
There is also an elven Bond. Some elves go their entier lives and never bond to any thing, never finding any thing worthy. It's a meshing of two souls, they can feel what eachother is thinking, and it drives them both to seek happyness and confort for the elf they are Bonded with. An elf can only bond themselves to one being at a time, and it would be a total waste to bond to some thing like a human. If one dies, the other dies. Almost but not like a dragon and rider Impression from McCaffery's Pern. It's a ledgend about an elf that managed to survive a Bond broken by death.
Not so much a courtship thing, but it's some times appart of romance is comunion. Elves have the ability to conect and shair their entier lifes experiences with another elf. If there is the slightest bit of mistrust or reluctance on eather part, the comunion will fail. It takes weeks to ready for. Comunion is sort of refreshing, and it allowes the elves to work in perfect harmony. I've heard about it being utalized by small bands of wariors before difficult fights or missions.
The Elven Hand book, D&D second addition has some nice information. Should also read the Similron (sp definatly) by Tokilen, a history of the elves, and give tones of culture refrences.
