Leaving

Azeron awoke with a start. In those lazy morning moments, he'd reached across the bed to find nothing there. He sat up almost as quickly as his eyes had opened, and he scanned the empty sheets next to him. As his still-waking body came in synch with his now-racing heart, he felt every limb begin to tremble. His eyes darted across the room, finding nothing. Dear God, no...

He lept out of bed, sheets tumbling to the floor as he did, and managed to quickly slip on his pants as he made his way to the stairwell. His feet touched perhaps three steps on his descent, and his weight fell into the door at the bottom to throw it open without slowing down. He darted down the cold hall hoping to hear her, but the sound of his bare feet against the stone was the only noise. As he ran by the office, he scanned it quickly. Seeing that there was no one there, he made his way to the end of the hall and stepped onto the teleporter.

An instant later he stood in the library at the base of the Arcane Order's tower, and it was obvious that it was empty. So he made his way out to the open patio, his feet beginning to sting against the cold stone outside. He looked out into the glade, and the village was still quiet. The wind picked up for a moment, and reminded him that he was only wearing his pants. Shivering, he made his way back upstairs to find his clothes.

A few minutes later, he was dressed and warmed, and ready to begin his search anew. He reached into his pack and flipped through the pages of his runebook, finding the one marked to Rellah's home. Quietly, he whispered a prayer, both of hope and of travel. He ended with the words "Sanctum Viatas," and he vanished in a starburst of blue.
