A hint of gold began to rise over the dark horizon, followed by various shades of oranges and pinks. From the highest branch of a large Yew tree, a pair of glowing red eyes began to dim with the growing light. The splendor of dawn was just a normal accurance to those born under the sun's warm rays. But it held a much deeper meaning in Crimson's heart. Nearly every morning she watched the sunrise. To her it meant freedom and change, and yet at the same time, the comming of dawn was her greatest fear of all. What would happen if the sun never came up? She took one last glance at the growing orb of fire, relieved that her fear was not met this day.

*********************************************

She jumped to the ground from her perch, landing with a hard thud. Cursing herself for no longer being able to levitate.. she forgot to look where she was going and tripped over a fallen log. "What a lovely start to a new day.." she muttered.

Pushing herself to her feet, she noticed a pair of eyes staring at her from within a bush. "Show yourself.." she said as she prepared an energy bolt. Out of the bush came the miniscule pseudo-dragon she affectionately knew as George.. his green pools of eyes spilling out tears.

"No!! Please! Not now! Crimson cried out in agony. She fell to the floor in anguish. She needed not to ask what was wrong.. only one thing could upset the tiny dragon in such a manner... Aslynth.

From within her head, a distressed voice began to speak. She knew the voice to be George's.. for his kind speak only with telepathy. "We..we..we f..ffound thisss." She lifted her head from the dirt and snatched the rolled-up parchment from his grasp.

Crimson my Dearest,
Two millenias have come and gone before my eyes, far more than most can claim. Like a daughter ye have been to me all these years, and I hope I was a good mother. Alas, the Platinum One calls to me. My exsistence is this realm has come to it's end, only to begin anew with our King in the realm beyond. Mourn for me ye better not, for I know thy are the strongest lady in the land. My most prized possessions I leave with ye, the rest I have left with George. Great distress he must be in.. an eye on him ye must keep for me. Dearest childe, thy head must remain clear.. strange things have begun to manifest. The realms are being cloaked in a mist of change. Affairs beyond thy control ye need to stay out of.. life must once again return to it's balance. Farewell I must say for now.. Again one day my daughter we shall meet. Truely gone I shall never be...
Bahamut be with thee,
Aslynth

She dropped the letter to the floor, her teary gaze turned to George. "I...I.. s..sshould be going back to the temple.." his voice stuttered in her head. He plucked a small box out of his pouch and handed it to her. "Keep it safe..." and with that he was gone.

She began to walk. "Truely gone I shall never be.." Aslynth's words echoed inside her thoughts.. but no matter how hard Crimson tried, she could not believe that promise. The only true mother she had ever known was gone.. a part of her had died. Everything went black, yet she continued to walk unconciously. Nothing could stop her, nothing, not the band of brigands she left in a bloody heap, nor the coven of liches that had been reduced to mere powdered bones.. all gone within a flash of fangs and talons.

Her mind awoke for a brief moment, her crimson orbs slid slowly back into focus. She felt as though she had seen a thousand battles. Her body was bruised and battered, her once elegant clothing hung be mere threads and was stained with a mix of dirt and blood. Her surroundings suddenly became aware to her as she felt cold sandstone on her bare skin. She mustered all her strength, and using the doorknob, pulled herself to her feet. She knocked as hard are her broken knuckles allowed.. the scenery around her was fading fast. She strained to remain concious as the door opened. Her strength finally failed her as she fell into his arms. She looked into his eyes and whispered "Ian.." before the darkness came apon her once more.
