previously: The priest decides to use his knowledge to eliminate the weed.At dawns early light Garulf and Solvey were awakened by a loud rumour coming from outside. "Damn who is making so much noise this early..." Garulf muttered while getting dressed. He opened the blinds of his window and then froze "S...Solvey come here..." he whispered before opening the window. "Garulf look over there!!! Have you seen that?!" Sven shouted. "yes I do Sven but I hardly believe my eyes!"
"oh Lords of Light the crops, they are back to normal..." Solvey whispered as she too looked trough the window. Near the temple the priest performed some rituals and shouted with a loud voice "The Lords of Light have not forsaken us, they have answered our prayers, and of those who came here to pray as well!"
"Praise the Lords!" the whole town shouted. Meanwhile Garulf and Solvey had stormed outside to gaze at the apples which hung on the trees. "They are ready to be harvested." Garreth noticed. "So is the corn and the other crops..." Garulf noticed while inspecting the golden corn. "Then what are we waiting for? Commence the harvesting!" Another villager spoke but before they could get some tools Farah appeared and said "this is the work of the paladins their lord."
"Get out, no one believes that, besides we don't like those paladins, ever since they left here, trouble started. Our very own Lords have listened to us and therefor I see no reason why we have to change our temple into a church" Solvey spoke. Farah looked at the area behind the blacksmid but froze as she noticed an oak tree standing at the precise spot where the bad herbs had been. Solvey noticed this and said "what a beautiful oak, another gift from our Lords".
"Your sarcasm doesn't work for me..."
"And I'm not afraid of your poisonous witchcraft..." Solvey hissed before joining her husband. Helluin and Eilinel had joined too and helped the others with the harvest. "You should've seen her face when she noticed the large oaktree behind the blacksmid." Solvey giggled. "Amazing isn't it?" the priest whispered "my alchemy has speeded up the growth of the oak" he added.
"Say priest, those Lords sure are strange, yesterday I didn't had an oaktree in my backyard" the blacksmid suddenly noticed.
"Considder that as a gift and swear to me you'll never cut it down." the priest responded. "I swear this priest, besides the shade does good, especially in the afternoon when I have to work near the fire. I have to thank them."
"Don't worry my friend, this afternoon there shall be a special ceremony to thank the Lords for their respond." the priest spoke. The blacksmid nodded and mumbled "these miracles sure came just in time" while leaving the area.
Near the townhall Farah realized that with the healing of the crops no one would listen to her plea for changing the temple into a church. "those elves runed my plans, but one day I'll be able to get even with them, for now I must make sure no one here ever has a child again, then they'll agree with my idea's" she thought, not aware that Solvey told every woman in town about Eilinel's special tea. "It'll be served in the tavern today" she whispered to them, while Eilinel just nodded, before looking into Farah's direction. Farah from her side went into the town hall and began to pour wine into goblets.
Half an hour later she rang the bell and waited 'till the people would come inside for a goblet of wine. But only Sven and a cat came inside. "Where is everybody? This is our weekly wine." Farah asked, trying to be friendly. "Ow, well Garulf from the Tavern gives a free barrel to celebrate the blessing of the Lords, too bad you seemed to have the same idea" Sven responded "well I can't do much here on my own but maybe next week, and besides Farah most of us still believe in the ancient Lords why don't you give up your crazy ideas." he added before leaving again. Farah smashed a goblet against the wall and cursed a number of times before walking out of the hall too.
Inside the tavern Sven reported the event of the wine to Solvey and Eilinel. "That damn wine, it's sour and hardly has any taste, but it has been the wine used for the meetings, for the past five years." Solvey noticed.
"Solvey's right" another woman noticed.
"I agree with Frieda" a third woman spoke while sipping from the tea Eilinel had served. "Strange, and in those five years no baby has been born?" Helluin asked.
"Not one, no matter how hard we try, according to the Elders it is because we don't listen to those paladins, rubbish if you're asking me, plain rubbish. The Lords simply have waited 'till we have enough food and now that we have, I think that we're going to have a huge baby boom on our hands." Jorund responded. "You always speak of more than one Elder, but I've only seen Farah so far, where are the others?" Helluin asked.
"They hardly come outside, they live directly behind the hall, in those five white houses. Thoral, Mechtild, Avar, Amaranda and of course Farah" Jorund noticed.
"Did they never asked questions about the lack of babies here?"
"No Helluin, those four old farts hardly can remember the upside of their chairs they are senile and weak. The only one who still has some brains is Farah, but she's totally out of control." Jorund answered.
"If only her husband, Pjotr, were still alive, then he could talk some sence into her" Garulf sighed.
"That poor fellow, I keep on telling you that his death wasn't a coincidence."
"Shuss... Farah is on her way..." Sven warned and the whole tavern fell silent when the old woman entered. "What's this, a tea party? While you all should be in the town hall, drinking our traditional wine."
"Sorry Farah but we have a lot to celebrate here and that so called wine of yours ain't good for this occasion" the priest responded before raising his goblet. "May the Lords of Light never fade here!" he spoke with a loud voice. "Heir Heir" the guests responded. Farah looked at the priest and rubbed her hands "I will wait untill you beg me to convert that temple of yours into a church" she hissed. "Not in this lifetime woman" the priest responded. Farah lifted her shoulders and left the tavern again, convinced that the next week the wine would be consumed, like before. From a corner Eilinel held Helluins hand and whispered "melamin, that woman is insane, how much hate can a person have."
"A lot so it seems, but our priority is to keep those women away from that wine, after all it could be the cause of this absence of babies" Helluin whispered back. Eilinel nodded and then went to Solvey to discuss the matter. Garulf walked over to Helluin and peeked into the cradle next to him "too bad that this beautiful lass is born into the most troublesome village."
"Garulf listen, behind the clouds the sun always shines, and one day that sun will break trough those clouds and all will turn good" Helluin spoke.
"He's right husband dear, come our guests are thirsty" Solvey said. Garulf looked at Helluin and asked "will you help?"
"Sure why not, 'till the bakery opens" Helluin responded. Garulf nodded and went behind his bar. Eilinel smiled at Helluin and then looked at Solvey who were busy in the kitchen, unaware she carried new life within her. Eilinel then looked at the other women before walking with a warm smile on her face, into the kitchen to help her friend.
Three months later the whole town celebrated the grand opening of the bakery. As promised Sven were allowed to help. And when Helluin came outside with his first baked bread, everyone fell silent. With a little knife Garulf cut a piece off and put it into his mouth. The whole town waited in suspence as he chewed and then closed his eyes. After a long pause Garulf opened his eyes and said "Helluin this is the best bread I've ever tasted in years, welcome on board laddie..." By these words the whole town cheered and applauded. "Come on, celebration in the tavern..." Garulf urged.
"Yes! Ow Eilinel do you still got that special tea? I is a lot better than that wine" Freya whispered.
"I haven't drank it for three months now and I also feel better".
"Emeril is right, ever since we stopped drinking that wine, and started drinking this tea, I've changed as well, more energetic."
"You sure do miracles, Eilinel" Solvey whispered, while following their husbands into the tavern. "Say ladies why don't we leave the men inside the inn and we sit in the backroom, make a ladies occasion of it" Solvey suggested. "An excellent idea" the women responded before following Solvey into the backroom trough the backdoor. Once inside she locked the door and closed the window. "Oh Eilinel, your daughter has grown big already three months is she?"
"Yes Emeril, Isilheledh is three months and a week, but why did you close the window Solvey?" Eilinel responded.
"To prevent curious ears would eavesdrop on us" Solvey whispered before serving tea. She sat down and whispered "I have all reasons to believe that... I'm pregnant, but I have to keep it silent to avoid trouble..."
"You don't think your husband would be angry?"
"No Freya, but it is Farah" Solvey whispered back. Eilinel peeked trough the window and shook her head "speaking of the devil, she's on her way and she has a jar with her..." she warned. "That wine no doubt, forget it, I'm not drinking that stuff again, since I too have the impression that..." Freya whispered. "Funny I was about to confess the same thing" Emeril noticed. "Me too yes.." several other women, causing Eilinel to smile while tickling her daughter. Solvey went into the in to warn Garulf about Farah's coming. "No worries love, you ladies stay in the backroom we'll kick her out" Garulf assured her before guiding her back to the backroom "have fun ladies" he said near the door before closing it.
