Lucky walked down the dirty streets of East Britians wharf district. Little had changed from his years away. The smell of fish and human waste mingled in his senses. So much different then the fresh clean air that he had grown accustomed to at TelRuid. He missed his comfortable green leathers but they would not do for where he was going. Bright colors stood out too much. The new Black and red that he now wore would allow him to blend into the shadows and not stand out as much in a crowd. Also they seemed to reflect his mood which was fitting.
Arriving at his destination he looked up at the old warehouse and shuddered. He truly never thought he would return to this place. Stepping forward he quickly rapped three times on the door, waited till a 10 count and rapped twice more. The door opened and a giant of a human looked out at him. The man motioned in the air with his hands. Lucky quickly motioned back surprised that his thieves cant was still proficient. The man motioned him in. Stepping into the sparsely light warehouse Lucky quickly walked to the back and twisted the tap of an ancient huge wine keg. The front panel swung open easily on well-oiled hinges.Soooo the high flaunting bastard returns rang out a voice as Lucky stepped in.
Im here as is my right. Lucky answered. I see that little has changed Patch.
Ohh enough has changed did the high flighty elves finally kick you out said Patch with a sneer.
My reasons are my own for coming back. I have the right .
Ya lost that right ya little half breed bastard when ya let McCayle swing from the rope. Patch said with a sneer.
McCayle made his own luck on that, I was tired of him using mine. Besides you know the law of thieves as well as I do. If you would have been in my position you would have helped them tie the knot around his neck. Lucky said
Doesnt matter people been saying ya been hanging out with High Council, Prosecutors, and Guards. Some say ya even were a guard yourself of Britian for a bit. That goes beyond the code of thieves whelp and ya know it.
Regardless of what I was. You and everyone else in this rats nest knows what I am. Lucky said. Here give this back to the brute guarding the door. as he tossed a worn leather purse to Patch.
Well, I see your touch is still as light as ever. Patch said with a smile But I dont know Luck too much has changed with ya. Back in the day ya would have just kept this purse.
I have paid my tithe every month regardless of whether I have stolen it or earned it. I paid my dues; I have never betrayed a thief to the law or anyone. I have kept the secrets of the Cant and this location . That is my requirements for membership. Put it before the members patch..Let them decide as it suppose to be. Lucky said with a shrug. I have some final business that I need to attend to. I will be gone for a week or two, give me your answer when I return.
Even if they do accept ya back, ya dont get a room only the dirty blanket and a spot on the floor. The rooms are taken and ya know that its a waiting list. Patch said.
Smiling to himself remembering the days of sleeping on the floor with a torn dirty blanket and praying he could leave this awful place, Lucky realized that Fate was a cruel mistress.
That will be fine Patch. Lucky answered and just to let ya know I aint changed that much. When you count out the money in that pouch and dont return it the hired muscle make sure I get my cut.
Lucky turned and walked back out the door hearing Patch chuckle. Now all he had to do was find a ship. Patting his lock picks in his inner pocket Lucky smiled.
