4 July 2004

I am still troubled by what I think I saw in the ruins of Montor in Ilshenar several days ago.

I have never had visions before. I am no seer, no prophet, just an archer and a dealer in antiquities, and I am far too old and unimportant to be going mad. Politicians, Knights, Kings, and soldiers go mad. I'm just an antiques dealer.

It was too real and too detailed to be imagination alone. I could see the city as it was thousands of years ago, when it was alive, when it was a living, breathing city. I could see it, feel it, almost touch it. It was only a glimpse, but knowing that a Hellish ruin was once alive is different from actually seeing it alive. It was only a glimpse. I could see, from high up, as though I were at the window of a palce or tower, an open air market. Goods being bought and sold. The people were dressed bright and gaudy, gypsy style. Some of the gypsies of Ilshenar are no doubt descended from the previous inhabitants, so that makes a certain amount of sense, even though it hadn't actually occurred to me before.

They seemed happy, but I felt sad.

It was real.

What's going on?
