Zhypher landed near their home and left as soon as they had gotten off and removed their things. Turing to look at their home, Illisse stopped and placed a hand on Vals arm. Someone was there. There is a pot of stew hanging over the fire, a single lantern lit and at the table, hands folded in front of him, sat a rough looking dwarf, Illisse had never seen before. But Valandil..Oyrin my friend going around the table to clap the dwarf on the back what brings you here? And how did you find me? He replies in a gravely voice Heh, your exploits havent exactly gone unnoticed Valandil. It only took the right question to find you. And that question was? Where does the elven healer live? and since I have heard of only one in this area, here I am. Are you not going to introduce me to her? Laughing, he turns to Illisse Illisse, this is Oyrin. He is a friend smirking slightly More like a partner in crimehe was always getting me into trouble Chuckling Getting you in trouble? laughter from both men Okay, okay we both got each other in trouble. What brings you here Oyrin? Planning on getting me in trouble again? The dwarf stops laughing, quietly glances at Illisse and looks back at Val, Er, he pauses As I said, your doings have not gone unnoticedIt is not you I have come for. It is your healer I have need of. Startled Illisse looks at Val for just a second. Her violet eyes showing him her uneasiness. Val moves back to her side, placing his arm around her shoulders. What do you need her for Oyrin? The last few months have not been easy on her. I was hoping we could stay home for a while. Standing up, the dwarf wasnt much taller than sitting; he bows towards her, lightly. There has been much talk of your magic, my lady. My magic? It is only a healers touch she says shaking her silver hair. I am afraid your journey has been wasted. I have no other, except small magic. She can feel Vals hand tightening on her arm. She turns to look up at him. What, Val? Do you know what hes talking about? He realizes she has no memory of the powerful magic within her. He places a hand on her cheek. Melamin, I must speak with Oyrin alone for a bit. Why dont you go get some rest? He smiles I am sure his stew will not kill me to eat. She nods her head, suppressing a small yawn. You are right, I am tired, She kisses his cheek, turns to Oyrin giving him a brief nod. I am glad to have met someone else from Vals past. If you will excuse me, I think I will take that rest. Before the dwarf could answer, she walked into the next room and closed the door. Valandil watches her close the door and stands staring at it. He shakes his head lightly, turns to Oyrin She doesnt have any idea of what you meant, Oyrin, that part of her magic is so strong she never remembers using it. What is the matter that you would need her? Sitting back down, the dwarf takes a deep breath, letting it out slowlySharmyth, our shaman, has forsaken ushe left us over a month ago, cursing our village as he went. No one knows what happenedwhy he left like that. I know where he went. The Dark Oaks Val looked at the dwarf, his eyes narrowing. No Oyrin, I will not take her there. I cant put her at risk again. We have been thru so much He pauses for a short time, slowly shaking his silvered head back and forth, clearly upset at the thought. Oyrin, his red head bowed at the table, replies in what for him is a gentle voice I do know what you both have been thru, probably more than you want people to know. He holds out his right hand, opening his fingers. There is a small, bright crystal lying there. Hissing at the dwarf, Valandil draws himself up to his full regal, powerful bearing I would suggest you NEVER use that stone to watch me again.friend.I have known you a lloong time oyrinWhy would you spy on us? I am not sorry for it Valandil, It was necessary to judge her. Judge HER? What is there to judge? If you even watched once, you would see all there is to her.. She is the other half of my heart.. I was not complete until she became mine. Why Oyrin? To see if she had the strength needed to help Sharmyth. She does, that is why I am here. We need her, Val. The elders sent me to bring her to them. I will speak with her Oyrin, but not today he gets up, getting bowls and fixing stew, tearing a loaf of bread in half. You may stay in Illisses herb room. I will see you in the morning Turning he sits down one bowl and opens their bedroom door, taking the food inside he closes the door. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he puts a hand on Illisses shoulder, waking her up. Illisse, you need to eat something she sits up, her violet eyes searching his What does your friend want me for Val? He hands her a bowl of stew I will not speak of it tonight, melamin. Not on our first night home again he smiles softly at her, not entirely hiding his fear. She chooses to let it be, for now. Stretching lazily the next morning, she is surprised to find Valandil already up and getting dressed. I didnt mean to wake up lisseamin. She shakes her head you did not. I was dreaming. It woke me up. Pausing for a second, she looks inward I cant even remember what about she rises from bed you go on ahead. I will join you in a few minutes. He shakes his head I will wait for you she gets dresses and they go out into the main room. Oyrin was outside sitting on their porch, carving a small figure out of a piece of wood. Watching him for a moment, Illisse goes down the stairs to sit on the bottom one next to him what is it you carve? she asks quietly. He holds out his hand, showing her a small dragon, it is almost finished. It is a charm against evil, my lady, it is for you. For me? She gives a small laugh What evil do I need protecting from? Before Oyrin can answer, Val comes down the steps, placing a hand on her shoulder and sitting down next to her. Illisse, this is what Oyrin and I spoke about last nighthis people have need of an experienced healer. Their shaman is.. he pauses ..Ill. Because of my friendship with them he gives Oyrin a look that says Do not contradict me on this they have chosen you to come help them..Erhim. He looks at her, his eyes seeking hers. Melamin, where Oyrin says that the healing must be done is a very dangerous place. He lifts a shoulder sighing I would choose to stay here and rest a while. But I know this decision must be yours. Wrapping her arms around him she sighs. She stands up taking Vals hand. She turns to Oyrin It is only because you are a friend that I even give this much thought. And that alone keeps me from telling you to take your needs and leave my home. He sees hardness in her eyes that he had not expected to find there. Leaving Oyrin sitting on the steps, Illisse walks quickly towards the edge of the forest that borders the back of their land, almost dragging Val along. He pulls her to a stop in a clearing, because it looked like she would just keep moving and never stop. He had never seen her so angry. Taking her in his arms, he holds her tightly. He can feel her trembling. A tear slowly slides down her cheek. She sighs Are we to never have time for ourselves? He shakes his head I dont know, melamin, I just dont know. But in this, you have a choice. To stay here or to help Oyrin shaman. She interrupts him Val, you know for me there is no choice. I must help.
