Earendil was the last of six children born Finarfin and Earwen, the others being Finrod, Orodreth, Angrod, Galadriel, and Aegnor. Although most elven historians record only the five, Earendil was kept hidden to safekeep him following in the fate of many of his brethren. Whilst the five sought out Morgoth and the Silmarils, Earendil was taught basic combat skills, dialects of the land, and the lore of Middle Earth. He attended great councils and became a great leader amongst his people. After The fall of Morgoth, he was recognized as a prince of the Noldor, however his true lineage was kept hidden until the last ships sailed into the west.
Earendil himself however never sailed on those ships, for he had disappeared during the War of the Rings. It was well known that he had encountered the Nazgul in Ithilien, and most believed he died in combat with their Chief. However a strange thing happened then, which even the Valar, could not predict. As the battle raged on, a great chasm appeared at Earendils feet, and the earth shook, and for a moment he felt the world was lost, and he sorrowed. But then as he fell ever deeper into the deeps of the earth, he felt a great joy, which he could not explain, and then he knew no more. Upon waking, he found himself in a strange land, lying beside a shrine, as small faeries tended to him. He was in Ilshenar.
And so he began his life in Brittania.

Earendil looked very much like his elder brother Aegnor, he was tall, 70, and possessed of a warriors build and the fair features of his kin. His golden hair sparkled in the moonlight, and his blue eyes gleamed in battle. His appearance was rivalled only by his sister Galadriel.
