In the silence that followed Illisse moved to get her pack, thinking of what she carried that would help Helevorn. As she chose her medicines Helevorn rose to his feet, then, fell to his knees. Looking up at Valandil, and the others, he sees in their eyes what he had become. Tarenamin, I am not worthy of your forgiveness. I will leave. Someday I may return. Illisse moved towards him, herbs and healing stone ready to use. NO Taren, do not let your lady touch one such as I. Stumbling back to his feet, he staggered out the door. Illisse started to follow after him. Valandil reached out his hand and stopped her No, melamin, let him keep that much of his pride. Very well, Val. I will not go after him. We must do something with the charm. She pulls out a piece of cloth and wraps the charm in it. As she goes to put it in her pack, Lindor stops her Illisse, let me have it, I will bury it away for now. I will not put either of you at risk. Please, this is what I am here for. She looked at Valandil, he nodded his agreement, so she handed the wrapped up charm to Lindor Please be careful mellonamin putting her hand on his arm I do not want anything to happen to you Lindor vanished into the dark.
As she put away her herbs, Val could see that she was shaking. Taking her in his arms, he said Do not be afraid, melamin, He can not hurt us anymore. Valandil, looking up at him, tears shining in her eyes. He was so full of hate. He tried to kill you.. I cant lose you Val interrupts her Sshh Illisse, I am safe holding her closer, You will not lose me. Remember? Laying her head on his shoulder, she soon became calm. She lifted her head suddenly as she realized something. Val, the magic.the warning was for you! It does protect you. She smiled up at him, lye naa er.
Lindor reappeared just before dawn. It has been taken care of. Do not ask what I have done with it. Put it from your minds. Know only that it is safe until you need to find it.
They returned to their beds in an attempt to get some sleep. It was not to be. Less than an hour had passed when they heard yelling from the clearing below. Dressing and quickly running down the stairs, they discovered the cause of such an uproar. Helevorn and six of his followers had left in the night. Taking with them everything of value they could carry.
I see he has chosen to become an outcast said Val. How can you say that Val? asked Illisse he said last night that he would leave. Yes, melamin, but he has stolen from his people. He has chosen the path of a traitor. We must find him. I fear he has gone to TelEmyndil. We must stop him before he causes more trouble.
Leaving TelAlfirin presented another problem who to leave in charge of their welfare until this trouble was resolved. Valandil knew he must make a decision that could affect the rest of their lives, and he didnt have much time to do so. While Lindor and Illisse got their things ready for the long trip to TelEmyndil, Valandil met with the elders of the village. After an hour or so of meeting they had decided to form a council to make any decisions that were needed until Valandil returned. Val also knew he would not make THAT decision without discussing it (for a very long time) with Illisse. (He was not sure how she would feel about being the wife of a king.wife.he stopped in mid stepThey were so much a part of each other, he had never thought about making their relationship any more official that it already was.) Shaking himself he tried to put that thought aside.
After eating a midday meal with the members of the new council the three set off on the long journey to TelEmyndil. It would take them more than a month of steady travel to reach them. And until they were closer to TelEmyndil, Illisse would not be able to give better directions. She only knew the general direction they lived in when she had left them before she and her then love had wandered greatly and when he was killed she was lost for several weeks.
They traveled as hard and fast as they could. Stopping in every village they came to, for Lindor to ply his trade as a traveling musician and to quietly search for signs of Helevorn. Around the middle of their fifth week of traveling Illisse began to recognize some of the area. We are close now, only two or three days from them. She said. They rested at an Inn that night. Lindor was playing his music when Illisse began to feel her magic coming to the surface again. Val she whispered there is something near. I feel it. Valandil quietly signaled to Lindor that they needed to leave, as soon as possible.
Leaving the Inns great room they retrieved their packs from their rooms. Making sure they were well covered by their cloaks they quietly left through the kitchen entrance. Staying in the shadows they went towards the stables to get their horses. They had not reached the stable doors when Valandil felt Illisse jerk to a stop. What is it? Unable to stop herself, Illisse took about a dozen steps away from the men. Standing in the middle of the lane, she slowly lifted both of her hands out from her sides. Valandil and Lindor heard her softly speaking in old Elvish. Morier, Wethrinaer, Ksher, amin yala onna enkemen kwara lye. When she had finished speaking, there came a rumbling sound from inside the stable. Looking towards the stable and back to Illisse, Val was just in time to catch her as she collapsed. Shaking, she looked at him I told you I can not control it well. Leave me. I will be alright, but you must hurry to help the elf in there she pointed to the stable.
Lindor turned away from them. Stay with her. I will see what has happened. Slowly opening the door, Lindors eyes were drawn to a figure near the far window. It was an elf, but he was not moving. Carefully moving closer, Lindor saw why. He was knee deep in a hill of clay and covered with a fine layer of it up to his forehead. He was alive. Shouting for Valandil and Illisse to come in, he began trying to find a way to free him. Lindor, you can not free him. Only I can do that said Illisse. Placing her hands on the elf the clay turned to dust and fell away from him.
Looking up to see his face, Illisse pales and backed away. I know him, Valandil, she said. Turning back to look at the other elf Halatir, why do you seek to harm us? You, who was once as my brother, you know how the spell song works, why do you seek to harm us?
