The young priest led the stout elf with black hair down the long stone halls of Empath Abby.
You may write down your tale here Replied the monk as he opened a heavy oaken door.
Jordan glanced in and saw a desk, with stacks of paper, a quill and some ink. A lone stool stood in front of the desk.
I can just come back later when Brother Stussan is here. Jordan replied.
The monk looked at Jordan with kind eyes and said, Yes but my fine elven lad you do not understand Brother Stussan will have you write it down either way so he may study it carefully. You asked for the best in our order on Elven lore, that is Brother Stussan, he will be out studying the ork encampments for at least another month. If you write it down now we can have it sent to his field study. You will be saving time not wasting it.
Looking slightly ashamed Jordan let his eyes fall to the clean stone floor.
Im not sure how to even tell him what has happened.
Well, The monk replied Tell it like your writing him a letter. That would work quite well I would guess.
With a sigh Jordan slowly walked into the room, sat on the stool, dipped the quill and then put it on the paper. The words started out slowly but then soon flowed like a wild river that had just burst its dam. Dear Brother Stussan,
I have come here to the Empath Abbey in Yew seeking some answers about other lands that you might have heard of. Lands that have the Elven race in them. I also wish to see if you can help me with the memory loss that I have experienced? It would probably be best to start at what I do remember.
I remember a Dragon as black as the night sky. I can see him swoop out of the clouds and descend on a village. I know it is my village but I cannot remember why I know it is my village. I see it raise its great head up and then breath a foul stream of greenish liquid. I watch in horror as it sprays innocent people and I see their flesh, bone and muscle melt like butter in a hot pan. I can smell the foul stench of the greenish pools and my eyes water from the fumes. I see myself grab my bow and start to fire arrow after arrow searching for any weak spot in the beast's great scales. I feel its tail smash into me and lift me into the air throwing me the way a child throws a doll that it has no further use of. I land smashing into the ground. I can feel my ribs, shattered and poking into my lungs as I gasp for breath. I can see the bones of my leg protruding through my leather breeches and I can feel the ground shake as the Dragon walks towards me to finish the kill. Then I hear chanting; I hear the words of magic. The world turns to grey and then to black.
I awaken to peace, and the sounds of birds in trees. I try to get my bearings but the pain in my leg and ribs caused me to black out. When I awake again the sun has sunk lower in the sky and I realize that if I do not quickly tend to myself I will die. Gently unclasping my cloak I cut strips with my dagger and bind my ribs tightly to hold them into place. It hurts to breath but they are no longer moving and scraping at my insides. Next I take my spare bowstring and two arrows with a cry I pull my leg back into place the best I can. I then splint it quickly using the arrows and string. After this I rest. While I rested I realized that I was not in the village. To my horror I realized that I could not remember the name of the village. Then I realized that this place was not even my world but again I could not remember the name of my world. I could remember places in my mind but not the names of those places. The more I thought the more the panic seized hold of me. I could picture my parents but their faces were blurry. I could remember they loved me and cared for me but not their names. I could not remember anything. Not even my own name. I then heard myself talk aloud and heard that my malady went even further for now I could not remember all the words in elven nor could I remember all the words in common. I was speaking a mixture of two languages remembering words from each but forgetting words as well. I shook my fist at the sky cursing the god that I knew lived there but not recalling his name. At this point grief and frustration over took me. I truly believe that I would have died there in the woods with my heart broken in two if it were not for the miracle that arrived next.
As I lay there crying and waiting for what I could only hope was the end. I felt a soft nuzzle along the side of my face. When I looked up I saw a beautiful horse staring at me with long eyelashes and big innocent brown eyes. He whinnied and nudged me again. I put my arms around his neck to hold him close to feel his comfort when he lifted me up and gently helped guide me on his back. With that he took off at a gentle pace. I drifted in and out of consciences. However the horse carried me like a mother carries her newborn child. As we rode into a small town I glanced up and saw a sign it read Jordans Cozy Inn I pulled on the horses mane and we stopped by the door. I dismounted and stumbled towards the door. I remember entering and asking for help before I passed out yet again.
When I awoke, the pain was gone from my side, and leg. A man in brown robes stood next to an elf talking quietly. But as I looked closer at the man I realized he had a beard so he could only be a half-elf. As I looked he glanced my way and saw that I was awake.
Aaye, my name is Lucky Cashban. He said with a friendly smile. You are safe. I am from the Village of TelRuid and I imagine you have a story to tell when your ready. Rest now, we can talk more later. I looked at him and replied I am??? but I could not tell him a name. My mind raced back and I thought of the Inn I saw coming into town. I am Jordan for now. Rest Jordan, Rest. Lucky said, We can talk later. With that I drifted off to sleep.
Lucky did not know how true this was because we have talked much since that first day and I found a home in TelRuid. A community to help me and to care about me. I cannot look at my future until I can remember my past, but either way TelRuid is now my home forever. I hope you can help me Sir. I hope you can help me find that past. I will be awaiting your reply. You can find me at The Silver Arrow in TelRuid.
Jordan.
