I have been trying to find an elvish word for color or hue, and cannot find one in the dictionary, phrasebook or quenya wordlist. I have difficulty believing that a concept as basic as 'color' has no elvish translation. What have you been using? Surely, at some point, someone here has had to use a word that means color or hue.

Well if you mean a specific word for "color" I cannot find one either. Odd too since there is a word for "discolored."

discolored = puurea

But I can't find any way to say, "What color is it?" in elvish.

I know some of the colors, at least as they occur in our local dialect, but this is an interesting question you have raised. I will research it more as soon as I can. If you find anything more, please post it. I would bet that Laer or Thrand might know.

mor = black (root of my elvish name)
luin = blue
aira = copper (copper metal = tambe; the root of another local elf's name)
malta = gold (gold metal = malda)
mith = gray (Tel'Mithrim = The Grey Company)
calen = green *recalls another elven name*

There are also specific qualities applied to color.

cul = gold-red; like that of a fire maybe

mithlin = blue-gray like that of the sky

winde = pale gray, like haze perhaps

morlin = very dark blue, navy blue or midnight blue

Yes! We even have pink!

carnin = pink

You can find these and more in the elven dictionary which is available for download in the language resources of this web site.
