"Yeah, I saw 'em. Human and a little Elfin child they was. 'Cept the kid carried a bow an' looked mighty pale.

He took a swig of his ale and looked about, reveling in being the center of attention. Here to the Silver Arrow he had come. He had met some Elvish Lords here a few years back. Probably they would be interested in his information.

And generous too, he thought, his mind swimming with thoughts of Elvish gold and gems, or, who knows, maybe more?

"They was arguing with the Old Necromancer out near the edge of Papua when I passed by. There was violence threatened..." And talk of great mounds of gold "...and not caring ta see tha little one hurt an' all, ya know, I crept closer ta hear."

"Yellin' and beggin' there was an' me reeling from tha stink of the rotten bodies. He was storin' 'em there for no good, mark me words."

"Then they all agrees ta goin' out ta tha woods an' Ole Dain he be worryin' tha little Elf (sweet little thing she was, young an' innocent) is gonna meet a bad end with tha company she keeps."

He drank again more slowly. Gotta' be careful here. Gotta' watch me words.

"So Ole Dain he follows 'em an' they heads out inta spider land. Nasty place. Don't wanna get lost out there."

"Suddenly everytin' happen at once. They was yelling and some magic got tossed about, and then, just as Ole Dain was about to rush ta tha rescue, tha spiders jumped 'em. Got tha human an' tha kid. Tha other guy, tha dark 'un, he was talkin' wid 'em.

"Then he sees Ole Dain an' I gets to hightailin' it outta there. Ran all tha' way back ta Papua I did."

"So, I thinks, 'Dain, I thinks, you gotta go tell the Elves, they'll wanna hear this, I thinks, them wise old generous Elves...'"

His voice trailed off expectantly...
