> Is there any simple way I can get a basic, basic, basic timeline of UO's world? To begin with I wish to state, that UO history never has been my strong side, nor my great interest, for it follows its own and unpredictable ways, which tends to make little sense, when compared to the history of the original Ultima games. It is however my hope, that you might still make at least some use of this answer.
Let us begin with the following except from the Ultima Online intro:
"Britannia that was once Sosaria now exists as a thousand worlds each with its own peoples, history and destiny. This Britannia is but one of many in the multiverse, that is Ultima Online."
I wish to start out with this quote because you to begin with must understand, that every shard has its own separate timeline. Thus your question is very much tied to the specific shard you are playing on. Yet, when that is said it is true that there has been a number of cross-shard historical events. Some larger and some smaller. I may have forgotten some and would only be grateful if those better versed in UO history would correct me or add to my list:
*The Order and Chaos fights.
A philosophical disagreement between Lord British and Lord Blackthorn, concerning freedom of the individual and freedom of the community evolves into a struggle between their loyal followers.
*The Followers of Armageddon.
A group, which wished to use black rock to destroy Britannia alike Zog did with the Armageddon spell, which the wisps gave him long ago.
*The Fall of Trinsic.
Undead lead by the lich Juo'nar took Trinsic, which was recaptured, however, after a hard struggle.
*Discovery of the Lost Lands.
The Lost lands are discovered.
*The Savage vs. Orc conflict.
The savages and the orcs waged war against each other.
*The Desolation Spell of Minax.
Minax appeared in Britannia and the end cast the desolation spell on the world, which left the world barren and dying. Nystul opens up an escape route to another facet of the shard, which was named "Trammel". The old and now dying world was named "Felucca". Britannia's rightful king, Lord British, flees to Trammel in order to regroup and strike back.
*The Faction Wars.
Deprived of its rightful king and rule and thus left in a power vacuum, Felucca is cast into a bloody war between four factions.
*Lord British disappears.
What was first thought of as a temporary arrangement (i.e. regrouping troops in Trammel) becomes a permanent situation as the rightful king disappears. Without the great Lord British to lead the armies the plan of recapturing and returning to Felucca becomes futile. The refugees from Felucca make themselves a new home in Trammel. Only few chose to stay in the old world.
Note on the LS shard elves:
With the coming of Trammel the elves fled from Tel'Ruid in Felucca and rebuilt Tel'Ruid in Trammel. The location (the area around the Shrine of Justice) of Tel'Ruid remained the same, but the facet was new.
Out of Game Note: Around this time Lord British aka Richard Garriott, who was the mastermind behind the Ultima saga and Ultima Online, leaves EA and Origin.
*Terror of the Exodus and Lord Blackthorn.
The most recent attack on Britannia was launched by Lord Blackthorn's Revenge, which was backed by the terrible power of the emerging Exodus and the Overlords' Juka creations. Many, if not all, cities of Britannia fell under siege.
*The Meer Disaster
The Meer, an ancient race, which had fought the Juka before, appeared in Britannia and sought to destroy the Juka through a powerful spell. The spell did not work as it was intended, however, and instead it perverted the nature of Britannia and the lush forest city of Yew was turned into a swamp.
After much struggle the balance of nature was re-established, but Yew remained a swamp.
*The Black Facet
The black facet of Malas is discovered and the professions of Paladinhood and Necromancy become known in Britannia.
Perhaps after this you think: "That is far too general, I need much more detail as to what happened". I understand such a thought well, but as I mentioned to begin with each shard has its own timeline and these events did not happen in the exact same way on all the shards. Thus you need to consult old players on your shard or shard specific sites in order to learn details about how things happened on you shard.
