the stars shone brightly in the sky, and the elves of Kintharin were going to bed. outside, however, in the Royal garden, the princess waited. in her hand she held a wrapped object.abruptly, a dark figure jumped down from the wall, landing behind her. stifling a shriek, the princess whirled around.
"you said come to the Royal Garden," the surly voice of the Outcast grwoled.
"yes. i thought that.... we are alike in more ways than you think" was the soft reply.
"oh yeah?"
"yes. you think...you think that a princess's life is so great, but.....i have no friends, just like you."
the dark figure tensed, unconsciously clenching her fists.
"i cannot trust anyone....anyone might have designs on the throne. that is why, when i saw you, i felt that you could be the one who could be my friend, my confidant. because you have no love for the cities, no desire for the throne, but have need of a friend. we could....."
the dark elfgirl looked at the golden one with wonder in her eyes. "you.... you want a friend??? you want -me-???"
"yes."
the princess then unwrapped the abject in her arms. it was a pair of rings, made of oak twined with emerald.
the golden one offered a ring to the dark one, who accepted it with a momentary hesitation, but then put it on decisively.
"if we're gonna do this, we do it your way -and- my way," the Outcast said, pulling out her knife. she sliced open her wrist, not flinching in the least and then offered the knife to the princess. she took it gingerly, holding it in inexperienced hands, but then cut herself in the same way.
they reached out and pressed their wrists together, mingling their blood. the blood dripped down and when it touched the rings, a green and a white light shone from them, bright enough for the whole city to see.
the elfgirls looked down in wonder, feeling the presence of two of the Divine in the clearing, both feminine.
~i bless this joining of hearts and souls, with all that i can give~ spoke the white light.
*live, laugh, love, with my blessing* said the green.
the disappeared in the blink of an eye, and the two young girls heard the Royal Guard coming that way.
"i must go!" hissed the dark one.
"yes. we will leave messages in this tree. the hole, right here. see?"
an affirmative nod, then she was gone, up the tree and over the wall in an instant.
the Guard arrived seconds later, to find the princess all alone, seemingly bewildered and definitely bleeding.
