Tolkien and the nature of elves

Since you ponder the nature of elves in Tolkien's works I think you should read or re-read part V of Appendix A called "Here follows a part of the tale of Aragorn and Arwen". The appendix is part of volume three of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

That tale is indeed food for thought.
