Darkness descended over the forests of Yew, plunging the crypts into further darkness. Salias, cross-legged, sat in the middle of a small, secluded room deep within these crypts. The much coveted seed slept in its bowl, which lied within his lap. His eyes appeared glazed over and showing no signs of a switch to infravision, despite the complete darkness within the crypts. Once again the poor drow was lost within his thoughts, or perhaps lost within his questions…

“It makes little sense.. T’is a mere seed.. Both sides… seem to have an incredible desire for it..” He thought.

“The elves! What were they doing with it?! Some ceremony was being performed.. But for what? And the Maerdyn, may the eternal flames take them, wanted it quite badly as well.. But why? Then again.. Why did I ally with such… iblith!?!”

He growled at his thoughts, eyes coming into focus and emitting a reddish-gold glow. He hmm’d thoughtfully, peering down, curiously, at the seed..

“A mere seed.. Though remarkably powerful in… what I think is life energy, nothing that should be of such importance to either side! Am I missing something? It makes no sense! The elves even attacked the Maerdyn surface-base.. For the seed of all things! I’ve never heard of elves being so aggressive, even if it were drow they laid siege upon! I’ve never heard of such on all my time on the surface..”

Hearing the sound of bone scraping against stone, he snapped into action. Setting the seed by his side, he twisted into a battle stance, hands already aglow with orange-red flames. The skeleton shambled into the room, raising its axe, preparing an attack of its own. In a battle with Salias, a second’s delay can mean your end, as it was for this… not so poor undead creature. He brought his hands together and let fly a ball of fire, flooding the room with light. The flaming ball hit target, shattering the skeletal form and sending numerous bones down the hall. Letting out a quiet ‘hmph’, he sat, once again, placing the seed-bowl back in his lap.

“Xas… There is a meaning to all of this.. The elves fought valiantly those two nights.. They are quite powerful, when as one!! Ah! I see! I brought this misery on myself, for mere self-preservation! My existence, I have, since I allied with them.. Ah! How foolish I was! Fate plays its cards… with humour! I tried to escape them... My faux family… Only to run headlong into them once again!” He growled rather loudly this time. “I will not be part of their lies! Let them writhe in their flames. They are damned!! I will not damn myself more than I already am! I will ask them the meaning of this seed! Should they lie to me… They will regret it. I will make sure of that.”

He murmured a few arcane words, a pale blue glow surrounding his person. Moments later, the glow, his form, and the seed faded from sight. The room grew empty and silent, shy the eternal screams of the damned.
