I finally got NWN. My question is if I wanted to create a character to just use in multiplayer such as Tel'Mithrim events, do I first have to create it in single player and then export it OR do I create the character in multiplayer only.Any character created on your machine is call a "local vault" character. Typically these characters are created and developed in single-player games, but they can be used in certain multiplayer games that allow "local vault" characters. This is just one of the settings when the host sets up the server.
What if I am 1st level though and everyone is higher, will the module level me up or can I not join?
Characters of any level can join the same game, depending on the settings. For example the DM could set the game for levels 5-10, or 1-20 or whatever. The game also has a setting under "module properties" that allows the game designer to set the level of experience points that the PCs receive.
Ledolas is talking about a particular setup on that particular server. So I am assuming that the server he is talking about only serves what is called "server vault" characters, i.e., characters created on that server for that particualr game.
The bottom line is you have to comply with the game designer's setup. I am not interested in playing exclusively on one type of server so I have saved my character at many levels as he developed in various games. If I want to play on a server that allows 1-6 level characters, I just take an earlier version of my character.
One other trick that might be of help is to make a special character develpoment module. Set the expereince points very high, and use a multi-spawner script that continuously spawns a monster of a given level. With in a very short period of time in this simple mod, your character can sky-rocket through the levels. As you play, save the character every two levels say or every three--whatever you want.
I have done this with all of the character types that I like to play. So I have a "local vault" character for any level of play on any server that allows "local vault" characters.
