Vhagar's Gift

Scales of an earthly sheen
A serpent with a warrior's mien.
Such a bold spirit made to flesh
Dragon and human, spirits mesh.
Crypt walls shake; a mighty roar
Vhagar's blood, the cost of war.
Dragon's spirit, fighting fierce
Daemon's whip, flesh is pierced
Red haired warrior's closest friend
Defends her life and meets his end.
Darkness impedes upon her retreat
He watches her go, a last daring feat
He knows he'll soon be reborn
Though her heart is surely torn
One day they will be rebound
No stronger friendship to be found.
He hopes she doesn't mourn him much
And he will miss her guiding touch
In the darkness, a hatchling waits
To rejoin his friend, a gift of fate.

The above was written in tribute to the Dragon Vhagar, lost in the attempt to reclaim the spirit of Glorfindle's brother Vara from the Balron lair of Hythloth.
