Next morning, Naurduin rose early and walked to the dining room, where she
hoped Maegtil would be waiting for her. She looked around the quiet room,
where only hours ago men were drunken and noisy. She saw the sunlight
streaming through the windows, lighting up the bottles and plates of various
colors, but, no Maegtil.
“Maegtil! Maegtil! Where are you!” she shouted.
Sneaking from behind her, Maegtil whispered, “And you say I’m the
one making us look suspicious? Hmm . . . seems to me like you’re the one
yelling this early in the morning, and threatening to wake up the whole
household.”
“Sorry, I forget that we’re up earlier than most. Well, since we’re both
up, malia ten ‘vasa? Earlier we eat, earlier we get going.” said Naurduin.
“Sure, all that sleeping made me hungry. What’s for breakfast?”
“I don’t know. Let’s find someone to ask.” said she. Walking down the
corridor from the dining room to the kitchen, she caught sight of a young
hobbit/kitchen assistant shuffling down the hallway in front of them. “Excuse
me, Excuse me, nessa er. Is any food prepared?”
“Why of course, ma’am. We have eggs, any style that you like them,
Toast, and cool spring water to drink. Can I get you some?” said the hobbit.
“Please. We’ll be in the dining room.” said Maegtil.
Walking back down to the dining room, Naurduin pointed to a table in
the sun by the bay window. The young hobbit walked up laden with trays of
food. He set their food down in front of them. As they sat in the warm
sunlight, Maegtil and Naurduin conversed in hushed tones of their trip to
come.
“So, from the Mor Morko we’ll go east up the Far Front Road and then
NorthWest once we hit the grasslands, right?” asked Maegtil.
“Yes. And after that?”
“ I . . . I don’t really know. That’s still quite a way ahead of us. First
we must find Morilote so she can lead us to the Tumba Alu River.” Maegtil
said.
Just then the bartender from the previous night entered the room. His
large girth shuffled towards them, while saying “Mellonaemin! You’re
certainly both up early! Are you enjoying your breakfast?”
“Yes, thank you, mellon. It’s very good! Are you the cook who made
these delicacies?” asked Naurduin after taking a bite of her eggs.
“I agree! These eggs are amazing!” said Maegtil. “Is there any way
that someone could prepare some horses? We’d like to leave within the hour
if that is in any way possible.”
The bartender’s face then split in two with a wide smile. “Possible? Of
course it’s possible! Anything for customers and friends as I always say! I’ll
put you on my two fastest, strongest horses. You will be riding the Appaloosa
stallion, sir, and the lady will be on the buckskin mare, is that all right?”
After they had finished their breakfast, they packed up their things and
went to the stable. They mounted the horses and slowly rode out the gate,
looking back on the Mor Morko Tavern.
