> Melyanna stood above the falls, the urn held tightly to her chest. Silent tears traced their way down chilled cheeks as memories of the last decade went through her mind.

> She remembered stumbling upon the nightmare in the depths of Terathane Keep. She had been terrified. The other denizens of the keep had attempted to stop her from reaching this destination, but she had persevered and made it. So she stood there, in the bowels of the Keep, the place the edanea called "Hell", speaking in hushed tones as she avoided the flames the nightmare spat at her. "Won't you travel with me? We could help each other survive..." she murmured soothingly, diving to the left and avoiding the fireball. It seemed to take an eternity, but finally she had convinced the nightmare, who soon would reveal her name to be Kaane, to travel with her as her companion and friend.

> From that point on they had been inseperable. Kaane had protected her from the daemons and dragon kin that lurked in the shadowed caverns around the city of Wind. She had come to love the mare and considered her family. Kaane had been there when Kirel left. And through the years he had been gone. Kaane had more than lived up to her end of the bargain.

> Then that fateful day in Magencia, when the three kraken had appeared from the depths of the sea, overwhelming her. Kaane had struggled valiantly to protect her friend but had failed, ultimately giving her life for that of her friend.

> Now Melyanna stood, allowing tears of sorrow to mingle with those of joy. She would miss Kaane, but Kaane was once again free to roam the spirit world. Taking the urn, she removed the lid and turned it upside down above the water. The breeze caught hold of the ashes and scattered them in the water and air. "I will never forget you, Kaane, you were a loyal friend and you were always there for me. Be free mellonamin." As the sun set behind the trees, Melyanna remained above the falls, the empty urn held in her hands.
