When Zak was just a young elf, his father always told him he would give the world to Zak. Zak and his family were part of a small band of elves, that were always running from the Drow. Always in danger, Zak's father told him that they were going to send him to a better place, far from harms way. His parents never spoke any elvish, in fear that the Drow might be lurking about, and hear their conversations. Before Zak left for the south Trinsic forest, his parents gave him a wonderous quarterstaff, crafted by the wood of a yew tree, and has a star saphire embedded at the tip of the weapon. His mother left him with a book on how to make potions and items from the forest. Zak was sent away that afternoon, not to hear from his parents for months. 7 months later, while Zak was writing a poem on he called The Leaders, a songbird landed on a branch above him, and dropped a note with his fathers seal scribed
on it. As the bird flew away, Zak opened the letter only to read...

Dear Zak,
If you are reading this letter, it means that the drow have captured your mother and I. In this letter is a name of a human, whose father we met long ago. Find this human, and show him this seal. He will help you along your journey. Until next time.

In a fit of rage, Zak pounced up to his feet, and sprinted off towards the closest town. He asked all over if anyone had heard of this human's name, yet noone would answer him. Once he arrived in the town of Vesper, he called out this name once again, and to his suprise, a tall, muscular man walked over to him and replied, "I am Barton Caledon, who might you be sir"? Zak told Barton about what had happened to his family, and how he had arrived in Vesper. Barton took Zak to his small house in the Tel'Ruid community. There he gave Zak the upper floor of his house and told it to try to keep it a little neat. There Zak works to learn all he can about the elves he once knew.
