Arthur Renfield, Paladin of Anu Character's Moral Alignment: Good Character's Main Skills: Grandmaster of the sword, shield, bow, and military tactics, scholar of anatomy and healingCharacter's Current Location or Residence: When not on a quest, Renfield lives with Basil Dobbs near the Elven village of Tel'Ruid in the remote forests of northern Yew. Character's Birth History: Renfield was born in Yew. His father was a merchant who made a comfortable living in the lumber and wool trade, and his mother was a shepherdess and loving homemaker. They lived in a comfortable forest home southeast of Yew township. Renfield grew up playing in the forest and often visiting Empath Abbey where the intelligent lad made many friends among the monks, scribes and scholars who visited there. It was a combination of these two influences that were to have a profound effect upon him. Character's Formative Years: The young Renfield's deep religious devotion almost caused him to enter the order of monks at the Abbey. If it had not been for one experience he would have done so. On one of his many trips into the forest, Ren found Lord Wilson, an aging Paladin, wounded and dying upon the ground. As the old warrior was too weak for travel, Ren made a camp and cared for the knight for several days before he finally regained consciousness. Ren stayed with Wilson until he could travel, and he took him to the Abbey where Wilson eventually recovered. Wilson took it upon himself to instruct the young lad in weapons training and tactics. One day Lord Wilson took Ren deep into the forest and in a quiet glade by a stream, told him of the Lady of Light, the Blessed Anu. As they sat in quite meditation, Anu revealed herself to Renfield, and the young man was from that point on transformed. As Anu approached him, bathing him in warm celestial light, he came to know his true path in life. As Anu touched his mind he promised her his service for the rest of his life. As Anu departed, Renfield looked to where Lord Wilson was sitting with his back to a tree, and he smiled. The old Paladin of Anu did not smile back, however, because he was dead. Ren cried there in the forest for a long time, indulging himself in sorrow at the loss of his friend. Finally, Anu touched his mind and in a vision he saw Wilson in golden armor standing beside her, a beautiful lady in veils of soft shimmering light. As this vision passed the new Paladin of Anu stood and after burying his old mentor, walked back to the Abbey.Renfield now fights evil where ever he finds it, and follows Anu's direction and teachings.During the Trinsic Rebellion, Ren joined with the Guardians as allies to Lord British Loyalists. He also fought against the Gelidum, Minax and Jou'nar and was present in the army on the final attack which drove the evil from Trinsic. Renfield almost lost his life in several fights with Keeonean at the Empath Abbey and there remains a unique, unspoken war between them. Character's Life Goals: Renfield remains in the service of Anu and fights evil where ever he finds it. Character's Current Occupation or Endeavors: Renfield has been on an extended quest at the City of the Dead near Delucia. He has been waging his own personal war on the Army of the Undead, which is lead by numerous liches. Recently he was called back to Yew by Basil Dobbs, his life long friend. Dobbs has asked that Renfield look into the rising evil in the Yew area, particularly around Empath Abbey and the Elven village of Tel'Ruid. |
