His mother died first and his father followed with in a few months, leaving the young Dobbs with a great sense of loss and a modest inheritance. Seth Oakchild, GM Smith, and a friend of the family took Dobbs in as an apprentice. Dobbs showed no ability at the forge or in the mines and was discontented and sick at heart. Character's Formative Years: Concerned for the boy's future, Seth arranged for him to travel to Moonglow where Dobbs followed his ambitions and began the study of magery. Dobbs was a beginning to develop some ability in magery when he meet the Guardians. He admired Ged, then the Guildmaster of TG, and he quickly adopted him as a role model. Ged was an inspiration not only as a great mage but as a great leader who had a deep understanding of human nature. About this time he met two other people who would have great influence upon him: Belladonna, with her knowledge of the realm and the history of events, became a close friend that he could confide in and constantly call upon for advice and information, and Velkyn Sol, a dark and private mage of consummate ability. No one had a greater knowledge of the the dark underworld and the isolated places where monsters dwelled. Through his associations with Vel, Dobbs became obsessed with exploration. Together they are currently exploring the realm and enjoying each other's company as they continue to study their shared interests. |
